XTERRA

XTERRA is the world’s premier off-road multisport event. An extreme competition, the XTERRA format combines swimming with mountain biking and trail running. It has been described as one part triathlon, one part mountain bike race, and one part “survival of the fittest”.

The typical distances are a 1.5k swim, 30k mountain bike, and 10k trail run. Courses are designed to have top pros finish in roughly two-and-a-half hours. Generally the swim comprises 10% of the total time it takes to finish the race, the mountain bike 65%, and the run 25%.

TEAM Unlimited LLC, a Hawaii-based television events and marketing company, created the sport back in 1996. It started in Maui with a single race and evolved into the XTERRA World Tour with more than 100 races in 14 countries of which 8 races in Europe are European Tour Ranking Series events in which the series’ highest overall point scoring competitors share a $20,000US prize purse.

There are 14 XTERRA Championship events, that qualify the top performers in each age group to compete at the XTERRA World Championship in Maui.

While it is true that some of the world’s best triathletes, mountain bikers, runners, and adventure racers compete in XTERRA, the sport is focused on much more than just elite racing. Beyond the competition, XTERRA is about community, camaraderie, adventure, and promoting the healthy, active, outdoors lifestyle among people of all ages. As a result, at most of our events you’ll find stand-alone trail runs, bike races, kids races, swims, and relay team competitions in addition to the XTERRA.

The XTERRA motto is “Live More”, and we encourage athletes to get out and go off, travel and explore, meet new people, and stay active with sport.

Brave Events

In 2011 Mark Davis set about developing a “big triathlon experience” . Events like Challenge Roth and The Wildflower Triathlon Festival were his inspiration.

Brave Events

Discovering Vachery Pond, a spring-fed paradise in the heart of The Surrey Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty yet only minutes from London and in the middle of the British Triathlon Federation’s hugely popular South East region was a big step in the right direction for his lofty ambitions.

In 2012 Mark with Mick Dicker, (one of the UK’s foremost race organisers and CEO of Raw Energy Pursuits) and his hard-working team delivered the first Vachery Triathlon Festival . Against the odds the summer’s ever-present clouds cleared, the rain ceased and the sun beat down on a great days racing.

The first festival featured, sprint and standard distance road triathlon races, along with the final off-road triathlon of the Scott XTRI series and a shorter sprint distance off-road race. While the off-road triathletes rode and ran around the private estate’s ancient woodland swimmers competed in 1500m and 3000m Big Swim races in Vachery Pond.

Brave Events was formed to build on the success of that first year.

In 2013 Brave will deliver some of the best racer and supporter experiences at The Vachery Estate.
